20 ILCS 4027/25

    Amends the Illinois Violence Prevention Act of 1995. Provides that the date this Act is repealed is July 1, 2010 (now, 2005). Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Violence Prevention Act of 1995 is
5 amended by changing Section 25 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 4027/25)
7     (Section scheduled to be repealed on July 1, 2005)
8     Sec. 25. Safe to Learn Program.
9     (a) The Authority shall establish and administer a grant
10 program to be known as the Safe to Learn Program. Funds
11 appropriated to the Authority for this program shall be used to
12 support and fund school-based safety and violence prevention
13 programs that address any or all of the following components:
14         (1) Building security, including but not limited to
15     portable metal detectors.
16         (2) Violence prevention and intervention.
17         (3) Crisis management.
18         (4) Training of teachers and other school personnel.
19     (b) Ten percent of any funds appropriated for this program
20 may be used by the Authority to provide technical assistance
21 and program support. Five percent of any funds appropriated for
22 this program may be used by the Authority for administration of
23 this program. Up to $500,000 of any funds appropriated for this
24 program may be used by the Authority for each of 3 years to
25 conduct a demonstration and evaluation of a comprehensive
26 prekindergarten through 12th grade school-based violence
27 prevention program in 3 pilot sites in this State. The
28 Authority shall distribute any remaining funds appropriated
29 for this program to school districts in the form of grants,
30 subject to criteria and procedures developed by the Authority.
31     (c) This Section is repealed on July 1, 2010 2005.
