SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Loretta Dessen of Urbana, who passed away
4on September 4, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen was born in Chicago to Philip and
6Lila (Ziven) Katz on May 26, 1931; she was raised in Rogers
7Park and graduated from Senn High School in 1949; she attended
8the University of New Mexico and the University of Illinois;
9she met Edward Dessen at a summer camp in Wisconsin, where they
10both worked as camp counselors; they married in 1951; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen and her husband were known as the
12founders of Illini Studio photography, which remains in
13business today; in the mid 1960s, she established Farmlake Day
14Camp, where she taught many local children how to swim, ride
15horses, and sing camp songs; she was known for her repertoire
16of camp songs and her grilled cheese and tomato soup lunches;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, After retiring from Illini Studio, Loretta Dessen
19welcomed students from the University of Illinois to Farmlake
20for barn dances and was fondly known as the Chex Mix Lady; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen was preceded in death by her

1husband, Edward; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Loretta Dessen is survived by her children, David
3(Deborah) Dessen, Jonathon (Patricia) Dessen, and Ruth Ami
4Dessen; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her
5sister and brother-in-law, Adrian (Skookie) and Sandy Bernsen;
6and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Loretta Dessen and extend our sincere condolences to her
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Loretta Dessen as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
