HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Eric Phillips on receiving the 2019 Most Innovative Blood Drive Coordinator Award from the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers; and

WHEREAS, Blood centers rely 100% on donations from volunteer donors in order to maintain a safe and viable blood supply; and

WHEREAS, Blood drive coordinators play a vital role in educating the public on the importance of blood donation; and

WHEREAS, Through his role as director of the University of Illinois at Chicago Athletic Department, Eric Phillips set out to organize the biggest blood drive ever held in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, After months of logistical planning and a heavy marketing campaign, Eric Phillips' blood drive at the U of I Pavilion in September of 2018 resulted in a record number of 759 blood donations, which helped save 2,277 lives; and

WHEREAS, Eric Phillips's blood drive succeeded in breaking the record for the greatest number of blood donations at a drive-in a single day in Illinois history; and

WHEREAS, Every summer, the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers holds a statewide competition to honor individuals who have made a major impact in their communities through their blood drive collection efforts; and

WHEREAS, In June of 2019, Vitalant nominated Eric Phillips in the Most Innovative Blood Drive Coordinator category; he was chosen in July of 2019 by the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers as the state winner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Eric Phillips on receiving the 2019 Most Innovative Blood Drive Coordinator Award, commend him for his hard work and dedication in organizing the State's largest blood drive, and thank him for all the lives that were saved through his efforts; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Eric Phillips as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
