 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were  saddened  to  learn of the death of Robert J.
 4    "Bob" Newell of Sparland on Friday, February 21, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mr. Newell was born on August 27, 1930 in Toluca
 6    to Robert O. and Anna Ohligschlager Newell; he married Gloria
 7    Cowell on June 28, 1952 in Lacon; and

 8        WHEREAS, Mr. Newell valiantly served his country  in  the
 9    United  States  Army  during  the Korean War; he achieved the
10    rank of corporal; and

11        WHEREAS, Mr. Newell was a graduate of Bradley University;
12    he was a member of the B Club and the Bradley Hall  of  Fame;
13    and

14        WHEREAS, For 46 years, Mr. Newell was a coach and teacher
15    at  Chenoa,  Sparland  and  the  last  35  years at Henry; he
16    retired in 2002; as a  baseball  coach,  his  teams  won  698
17    games;   he   was  a  member  of  the  Illinois  High  School
18    Association Hall of Fame  and  the  Greater  Peoria  Baseball
19    Association; and

20        WHEREAS, Mr. Newell was a member of Ducks Unlimited and a
21    hunter  and  guide  for  50  years;  he  began guiding on the
22    Illinois River at the age of 12; he was a  member  of  United
23    Methodist Church in Henry; and

24        WHEREAS,  The  passing of Mr. Newell has been felt deeply
25    by many, especially his wife,  Gloria;  his  son,  R.J.  (and
26    Gina);  his  daughter,  Lee  Ann  (and  Dave);  and  his four
27    grandchildren; therefore, be it

28        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL
29    ASSEMBLY  OF  THE  STATE  OF ILLINOIS, that together with his
30    family, friends, and all who knew and loved him, we mourn the

 1    passing of Robert J. "Bob" Newell  and  extend  to  them  our
 2    sincere condolences; and be it further

 3        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 4    presented to the family of Robert Newell as a symbol  of  our
 5    deepest sympathy.
