SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Evangelist Armintie Juanita (Johnson) Moore, formerly of East St. Louis, on December 6, 2004; and

WHEREAS, She was born June 22, 1920 in Union County, Mississippi to Thomas Walter and Mary Mundie Johnson; and

WHEREAS, As a young child, she possessed a quick wit, and is remembered as a responsible and clever child; her elementary education was received at Piney Grove Elementary and Palestine schools; she graduated from B.F. Ford High School, and attended Jackson State College; she subsequently became a school teacher, teaching grades one through seven in Gunn Town, Mississippi; she was a unique basketball player, as well as tutor; and

WHEREAS, In 1944, she married Luther Moore, Sr. and helped him raise a stepson, Wilbert; together they were the parents of eight children; and

WHEREAS, For more than 39 years, she fulfilled the capacity of Pastor's wife, as well as first pianist for the Church of God Pentecostal in East St. Louis; many have spoken to the impact that she made on their lives and attest to her high courage, unwavering faith, stand for holiness, and love for all people; and

WHEREAS, She further advanced her education by attending classes at State Community College; she and her husband developed and maintained their own prominent business, Moore's Shoe Repair Shop, and she was well-known for her homemade cakes and pies; she was especially noted as a prolific Sunday School teacher and prayer warrior; as a dynamic speaker, she traveled extensively teaching and preaching throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, After the retirement of her husband, she became a member of Lively Stone Church in St. Louis, Missouri; in 1988, she moved back to Blue Mountain, Mississippi and joined the Bible Way Church in Ecru, Mississippi, where her third son, Frederick Ray Moore, Sr., pastored; in 2000, she moved to Philadelphia, Mississippi and attended Jerusalem Temple Church; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her stepson, Wilbert; her son, Luther Moore, Jr.; a brother, Robert Johnson; and two sisters, Mary Etta Turner and Lucy Gray; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Evangelist Armintie Juanita Moore will be felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her sons, Thomas Leslie, Sr., Frederick (Tommie Lue), and Minister Robert (Sabrina); her daughters, Mary (Ricky) Shorter, Armintie Juanita (David) Hammonds, Evangelist Beatrice Christine, and Florine (Wendell) Holmes; her brothers, Elder Thomas (Vera) Johnson and Deacon Joshua (Lillie) Johnson; her daughter-in-law, Georgia Moore; her sister-in-law, Brona Johnson; her brother-in-law, Elder John (Helen) Grey; her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Evangelist Armintie Juanita Moore along with all who knew and loved her and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
