SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Evangelist Armintie
4 Juanita (Johnson) Moore, formerly of East St. Louis, on
5 December 6, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, She was born June 22, 1920 in Union County,
7 Mississippi to Thomas Walter and Mary Mundie Johnson; and
 
8     WHEREAS, As a young child, she possessed a quick wit, and
9 is remembered as a responsible and clever child; her elementary
10 education was received at Piney Grove Elementary and Palestine
11 schools; she graduated from B.F. Ford High School, and attended
12 Jackson State College; she subsequently became a school
13 teacher, teaching grades one through seven in Gunn Town,
14 Mississippi; she was a unique basketball player, as well as
15 tutor; and
 
16     WHEREAS, In 1944, she married Luther Moore, Sr. and helped
17 him raise a stepson, Wilbert; together they were the parents of
18 eight children; and
 
19     WHEREAS, For more than 39 years, she fulfilled the capacity
20 of Pastor's wife, as well as first pianist for the Church of
21 God Pentecostal in East St. Louis; many have spoken to the
22 impact that she made on their lives and attest to her high
23 courage, unwavering faith, stand for holiness, and love for all
24 people; and
 
25     WHEREAS, She further advanced her education by attending
26 classes at State Community College; she and her husband
27 developed and maintained their own prominent business, Moore's
28 Shoe Repair Shop, and she was well-known for her homemade cakes
29 and pies; she was especially noted as a prolific Sunday School
30 teacher and prayer warrior; as a dynamic speaker, she traveled

1 extensively teaching and preaching throughout the United
2 States; and
 
3     WHEREAS, After the retirement of her husband, she became a
4 member of Lively Stone Church in St. Louis, Missouri; in 1988,
5 she moved back to Blue Mountain, Mississippi and joined the
6 Bible Way Church in Ecru, Mississippi, where her third son,
7 Frederick Ray Moore, Sr., pastored; in 2000, she moved to
8 Philadelphia, Mississippi and attended Jerusalem Temple
9 Church; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband; her
11 stepson, Wilbert; her son, Luther Moore, Jr.; a brother, Robert
12 Johnson; and two sisters, Mary Etta Turner and Lucy Gray; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The passing of Evangelist Armintie Juanita Moore
14 will be felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her
15 sons, Thomas Leslie, Sr., Frederick (Tommie Lue), and Minister
16 Robert (Sabrina); her daughters, Mary (Ricky) Shorter,
17 Armintie Juanita (David) Hammonds, Evangelist Beatrice
18 Christine, and Florine (Wendell) Holmes; her brothers, Elder
19 Thomas (Vera) Johnson and Deacon Joshua (Lillie) Johnson; her
20 daughter-in-law, Georgia Moore; her sister-in-law, Brona
21 Johnson; her brother-in-law, Elder John (Helen) Grey; her
22 numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
23 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
24 cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
25     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
27 Evangelist Armintie Juanita Moore along with all who knew and
28 loved her and we extend our sincere condolences to her family,
29 friends, and community; and be it further
 
30     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to her family as an expression of our deepest
