SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ronald
4 Ghilardi, former Mayor of Lisle, on July 25, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Ronald Ghilardi was born and raised in Berwyn; he
6 graduated from St. Procopius College, now Benedictine
7 University; at that time, the college was located near Lisle in
8 unincorporated DuPage County; and
 
9     WHEREAS, While in college, Mr. Ghilardi's affection for the
10 village of Lisle grew and fueled his dream to one day become
11 Lisle's mayor; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Ghilardi met his wife, Nancy, when she and
13 several girlfriends were recruited by her church to participate
14 in the plays being put on by the then all-male college; he was
15 often chosen to act in the plays; in 1962, one year after he
16 graduated, the couple married; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Upon graduating from college, Mr. Ghilardi worked
18 in Allstate Insurance Company's legal department during the day
19 and attended John Marshall Law School in the evenings; he
20 earned his law degree in 1970; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Mr. Ghilardi served as a Lisle trustee from 1970
22 to 1981 and as the Mayor of Lisle from 1989 to 2001; he was also
23 a member of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and served as
24 president of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference; and
 
25     WHEREAS, As Mayor of Lisle, Mr. Ghilardi was greatly
26 admired for his leadership skills; he championed the
27 transference of the village's dependence on property taxes onto
28 the area of sales; he pushed for sales-tax rebates that
29 realized hundred of thousands of dollars and benefits to the

1 village; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Mr. Ghilardi retired from Allstate in the late
3 1990s as the company's assistant vice president of litigation
4 management; he later joined Ohio Casualty and two years ago,
5 moved to Cincinnati to become that company's director of
6 litigation management; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The passing of Ronald Ghilardi will be deeply felt
8 by many, especially his wife, Nancy; his daughters, Lisa
9 Williams and Christine Ghilardi-Solomon; his mother, Louise;
10 his brother, Lawrence; and his three grandchildren; therefore,
11 be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
14 Ronald Ghilardi along with all who knew and loved him and
15 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and
16 be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Ronald Ghilardi as an expression of
19 our deepest sympathy.
