SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Mildred Junie Mae Beasley
4 of Lovejoy on January 20, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born July 11, 1924, the sixth of ten
6 children born to Adam and Junie Jackson in Coffeeville,
7 Mississippi; and
 
8     WHEREAS, In 1944, she joined her mother and other family
9 members to live in Lovejoy; during her last years, after two
10 marriages, several moves, and raising her family of two sons
11 and four daughters, she again settled in Lovejoy; and
 
12     WHEREAS, From the early 1940's through the early 1990's,
13 she was acknowledged as one of the premiere gospel vocalists to
14 come out of Lovejoy; from the beginning, it was clear that she
15 had been blessed with a great singing voice and personality;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, For many years, she participated and served as the
18 Director of the Antioch Baptist Church Choir (for over 40
19 years), the Director of Lovejoy Community Union Chorus, a
20 member of East Saint Louis Jordoniars, a member of East Saint
21 Louis Salvation Army Choir, and a member of Eastern Star; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The passing of Mildred Junie Mae Beasley will be
23 felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her sons, Gerald
24 Quincy Jones and Edward Gene Glasper; her daughters, Versa Lee
25 Hampton, Ruby Christian, Betty Lawson, and Anita Grace Jones;
26 her son-in-law, Charles Christian; her sisters, Frances
27 Washington, Pearl Scurlock, and Tommie Williams; her 15
28 grandchildren; her 20 great-grandchildren; and her two great
29 great-grandchildren; and

1     WHEREAS, Mildred will be remembered not only as a great
2 gospel singer, but also as a Christian woman who was beloved by
3 her family, friends, and neighbors alike; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6 Mildred Junie Mae Beasley and extend our sincerest condolences
7 to her family, friends, and community; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Mildred Junie Mae Beasley as an
10 expression of our deepest sympathy.
