SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Joseph Allen Murphey of
4 Princeton on Friday, August 20, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Murphey was born on July 9, 1915 in Crete,
6 Nebraska to Joseph Allen and Mabel (Dutch) Murphey; he married
7 Winnifred Coward on July 24, 1944 in Portland, Oregon; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Murphey graduated from Doane College in Crete,
9 Nebraska and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to be a
10 chemist; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the
12 U.S. Army during World War II; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mr. Murphey returned after the war to the family
14 business, Hoffman's Jewelry, which was located next to the
15 Clark Hotel; he bought the business and started Patterns of the
16 Past, a matching service for china, silverware, and crystal,
17 while also running the jewelry store; he and his wife owned and
18 operated Hoffman's Patterns of the Past for more than 50 years;
19 and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mr. Murphey was a member of the Lions Club for
21 more than 50 years and was a member of Princeton Moose Lodge
22 1339 and Princeton American Legion; and
 
23     WHEREAS, His passing has been deeply felt by many,
24 especially his wife, Winnifred; his sons, Patrick Allen Murphey
25 and Scott R. (Meg) Murphey; his daughters, Jelinda F. (Richard)
26 Morse and Susan Jane (Claude) Rasmussen; his grandson, Bryan E.
27 (Genna) Lorenzana; and his nieces, Allyn Sitterly and Mary
28 Beastall; he was preceded in death by his parents and one
29 daughter, Judith Ann Murphey; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 John Allen Murphey, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
4 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the family of Mr. Murphey as an expression of our
8 sincerest condolences.
