SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Russell D. Smith of Princeton, formerly of Ohio, Illinois, on Monday, August 23, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Smith was born on January 2, 1928 in Buda to Earl and Gladys (Osborne) Smith; he married Catherine Joan McManus on August 11, 1950 in Wyoming, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, He was a 1945 graduate of Toulon High School and attended Iowa State University; he graduated from the University of Illinois with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree; he practiced in the Ohio area and served as superintendent for the Illinois Department of Agriculture, meat and poultry inspection; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Smith valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and was a member of Princeton Moose Lodge 1339 and the Illinois Veterinary Association; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Smith has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Catherine; his children, Mark Smith, Cathy (Chuck) Lovgren, Mary (Rodney) Healey-Mills, Jim (Nancy) Smith, Mike (Doris) Smith, Tim (Aggie) Smith, and Tom (Carol) Smith; his brothers, Leon (Kaye) Smith and Dale (Esther) Smith; his 13 grandchildren; and his nine great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Thomas Healey; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Russell D. Smith, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mr. Smith as an expression of our sincerest condolences.
