SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Arnold E. Clayton, the former mayor of Princeton, on Sunday, July 11, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Arnold E. Clayton was born on December 18, 1926 in Cameron to Clifford O. and Eunice (Andrews) Clayton; he married Ruth Everson Eckard on July 23, 1982 in Princeton; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Clayton valiantly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Clayton served on the Bureau County Board from 1990 to 1995, as chairman from 1992 to 1994, and he served as mayor of Princeton from 1995 to 1999; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Clayton was a member of the Princeton Woodworkers Club, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Princeton, American Legion Post 125, and Princeton Moose Lodge 1339; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Arnold E. Clayton has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Ruth Everson Eckard; his son, Barry (Jackie); his daughter, Karen (Chuck) Hanson; his stepson, G. Whitney Eckard; his stepdaughter, Quinta (Gary) Morton; his sister, Kay (Bill) Behrens; his brothers, James (Beverly) Clayton, Dean (Gisela) Clayton, and Richard Clayton; his four grandchildren; his five stepgrandchildren; and his nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bonnie Harris and Maureen Shannon; two brothers, Charles Clayton and Pete Clayton; and one granddaughter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Arnold E. Clayton, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Arnold E. Clayton as an expression of our sincere condolences for their loss.
