SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Lee Raymond Schar of Whitefish, Montana, formerly of Chicago, on Tuesday, June 15, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schar was born on January 13, 1945, to Wallace and Fern Schar of Naperville; he grew up in Berkeley and attended Proviso West High School; he attended the University of Illinois, where he graduated in 1968 with a psychology major and a minor in human factor engineering; he married Joyce G. Corry a year later; and

WHEREAS, After spending time as a school teacher, Mr. Schar began working as a Secret Service agent in 1974, moving to Washington, D.C., in 1980; he worked on the security details of Vice President Walter Mondale and President George H.W. Bush; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schar returned to Chicago after 8 years to head the counterfeit and fraud divisions; he retired briefly in 2000 after 26 years with the Secret Service, pursuing his dream of living in the west and building a mountain home; following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, he endured testing to become a supervisor for federal air marshals in Seattle as part of the Homeland Security initiative; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Schar was a loyal Chicago Cubs and Bears fan; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Lee Raymond Schar has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Joyce; his children, Kristin and Katherine Schar and Jenny (Seth) Hutt; his parents, Fern and Wallace Schar; his brothers, James (Jan) and Keith (Beth) Schar; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lee Raymond Schar, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lee Raymond Schar as an expression of our sincere condolences.
