SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of James Edward Jerger of Decatur on June 17, 2004; and

WHEREAS, James Edward Jerger was born in Washington, Indiana on January 6, 1936, to Carl and Virginia (Rose) Jerger; he grew up in Evansville, Indiana; he attended St. Edwards University in Texas, graduated from Indiana University Dental School, and completed his internship and residency at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Jerger married Rita Harder on August 18, 1962; he valiantly served his country in the U.S. Army; he was a pediatric dentist in Decatur for 38 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Jerger was a very patriotic American; he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples, Florida; he was a dedicated member of Sertoma for more than 30 years; he was past president of South Side Country Club, Decatur Dental Society, and Sertoma; he was a member of the American Pediatric Dental Society, American Orthodontic Society, and numerous other state and national dental societies; and

WHEREAS, He was a passionate fan of the Indiana Hoosiers and the St. Louis Cardinals and Rams; he was an avid golfer and jogger; his positive attitude in his fight against cancer and his constant sense of humor were amazing and uplifting to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, The passing of James Edward Jerger has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Rita; his daughter and her husband, Katrina and Ed Busse, and their children, Ariana and Keenan; his son, Derek Jerger; his son and his wife, Dr. Bret and Tracey Jerger, and their children, Cailin and Ashton; his son, Darin, and his children, Macy and Jax; his father, Carl Jerger; and his sisters, Harriett Causey and Deb Schneider; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia, and his sister, Karen; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Edward Jerger, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Edward Jerger as an expression of our sincere condolences.
