SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Howard Ariel Mathus of East
4 Alton on Saturday, June 12, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Mathus was born on July 23, 1924, in Alton to
6 the late Cliff Ariel and MaBelle (Coyle) Mathus; he married the
7 former Priscilla Young on April 18, 1946, in Alton; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Mathus valiantly served his country in the
9 U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 on the U.S.S. New Jersey; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mr. Mathus was employed as a wireman for IBEW
11 Union Local 649 for 53 years, retiring in 1988; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Mathus was a 55-year member of the IBEW Local
13 649, a member of American Legion Post 199 in Edwardsville, a
14 Past Commander of Wood River Post 204, a Past Commander of the
15 Madison-Bond County Council, a Past 22nd District Commander,
16 and a Past 5th Division Commander; he served on numerous
17 committees on the local and State level of the American Legion,
18 was a member of the 22nd District Last Mans Club, a member of
19 the Egyptian Past Commanders Club, serving as
20 secretary-treasurer for 12 years, a member of the Illinois
21 Association of County Veterans Assistance Commission, serving
22 as State president two years, a 55-year member of Franklin
23 Masonic Lodge AFAM in Alton, a member of the Alton FOE (Eagles)
24 Aerie 254, and a life member of the Alton VFW 1308; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The passing of Howard Ariel Mathus has been deeply
26 felt by many, especially his wife, Priscilla; his son, Mark
27 Ariel Mathus; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Ann and
28 Kenneth Grohman; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Mathus, Meagan
29 Mathus, and Vanessa Grohman; his brothers and a sister-in-law,
30 Phillip and Margie Mathus, Cliff A. Mathus, and Roger C.

1 Mathus; his sister and brother-in-law, Lloyd and Mary Ann
2 Barber; and his sisters-in-law, Ruth Mathus, Florence Mathus,
3 and Mary Young; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6 Howard Ariel Mathus, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
7 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8 further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Howard Mathus as an expression of
11 our sincere condolences.
