 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
 3    of the death of Blanche Rine on Monday,  December  16,  2002;
 4    and

 5        WHEREAS,   Mrs.   Rine  was  the  daughter  of  Hungarian
 6    immigrants and was the youngest of seven children;  she  grew
 7    up  in  Wicker  Park  and  at  the  age of 16 started her own
 8    religious school with synagogue youth groups; she went on  to
 9    become a Hebrew teacher; and

10        WHEREAS,  She  met and married Rabbi Aaron Rine and spent
11    six years at a congregation in South Bend, Indiana, three  at
12    one  on  the  West  Side  of  Chicago, and finally settled at
13    Congregation Beth Itzchok; they were married 55 years; and

14        WHEREAS, Mrs. Rine will be remembered for her role  as  a
15    rabbi's  wife;  she  held weekly classes on Jewish events and
16    organized lectures and several groups  for  women,  including
17    the  Yeshiva  Women  of  the Hebrew Theological College and a
18    twice yearly seminar for women from different  congregations;
19    and

20        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Rine wrote plays and skits and edited the
21    award-winning Voice of Beth Itzchok for more than  40  years;
22    she was the Orthodox Union delegate to the 1963 conference on
23    race and religion; and

24        WHEREAS, Mrs. Rine was generous in the way that she lived
25    her  life;  she  invited  poor  people  into her home for the
26    weekly shabbat meal and delivered meals to the poor; and

27        WHEREAS, The passing of Mrs. Rine has been deeply felt by
28    all who knew her, especially  her  son,  Joe  Rine;  her  two
29    daughters,    Malke   Bakst   and   Perle   Rine;   her   two
30    sisters-in-law;  her  12   grandchildren;   and   her   seven
31    great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
 2    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the  passing
 3    of  a  great  lady who will be remembered as the Rebbitzen of
 4    Rebbitzens (the rabbi's wife of all rabbi's wives) and  offer
 5    her  family  and  friends  our  deepest  sympathy;  and be it
 6    further

 7        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 8    presented  to  the  family of Blanche Rine with our sincerest
 9    condolences.
