SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 were saddened to learn of the tragic death of Army Captain John
4 Tipton of Granite City in an explosion during combat in the Al
5 Anbar Province in Iraq; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Captain Tipton grew up in Granite City and
7 attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, where
8 he met his wife, Susie; he graduated from SIUE and ROTC in 1995
9 as a distinguished military graduate with a degree in business;
10 while in the Army, he earned commendations including a Purple
11 Heart, and the Army Commendation Medal; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Captain Tipton was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas
13 with his family; he was commander of Headquarters and
14 Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry, 1st
15 Brigade, 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He commanded 352 troops deployed to Iraq; the
17 mechanized division is made up of Bradley armored fighting
18 vehicles and is deployed to the front lines, where the division
19 generally transports infantry to the battlefield, provides
20 fire cover to ground troops, and suppresses enemy tanks and
21 fighting vehicles; he was a veteran of Desert Storm and always
22 worked to make his troops as comfortable as possible in the
23 desert; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Captain Tipton will be remembered as a loving
25 husband, great father, and loyal friend; and
 
26     WHEREAS, The passing of Captain John Tipton will be deeply
27 felt by many, especially his wife, Susie; his children, Austin
28 and Kaitlyn; and his sister-in-law, Laura DeLuca; therefore, be
29 it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
3 Army Captain John Tipton along with all who knew and loved him
4 and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and
5 community; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Army Captain John
7 Tipton and his willingness to serve our great nation which led
8 to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Army Captain John Tipton as a token
11 of our deepest sympathy.
