SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of William H. "Bill" Hobbs on May 24, 2004; and

WHEREAS, He was born on July 16, 1917, in Franklin County, the son of W.C. "Willie" and Allie (Beaty) Hobbs; on April 16, 1938, in Morganfield, Kentucky, he married Lillian Belle (Collins); and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hobbs was the owner and operator of Hobbs & Son John Deere in Benton for 23 years; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the North Benton Baptist Church since 1981, where he served as deacon; he, along with Mrs. Hobbs, were active in the Joy group at the church; and

WHEREAS, He was a former member of the Ag Advisory Board at Rend Lake College; he had been a 4-H leader for several years; he was a member of the Liars Club, the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation Board, the Mississippi Valley Farm Equipment Dealers Association, and was a former school board member of the Steel City School District; and

WHEREAS, The passing of William H. "Bill" Hobbs will be deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Lillian Hobbs; his son, Larry Hobbs and wife Nancy; his daughter, Kathy Shaw and husband the Rev. Richard Shaw; his grandchildren, David Hobbs and wife Amy, Danny Hobbs and wife Kara, Jeremy Shaw and wife Jody, and Gretchen Vance and husband Dean; his great-grandchildren, Daniel Hobbs, Will Hobbs, and Fiona Shaw; and his sister, Lorene Page; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. "Willie" and Allie (Beaty) Hobbs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of William H. "Bill" Hobbs along with all who knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William H. "Bill" Hobbs as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
