SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Robert Charles Boken, M.D.,
4 on Sunday, May 2, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dr. Boken was born on August 25, 1935, in St.
6 Paul, Minnesota, to Anne (Ryan) and Robert Boken; he was raised
7 in Manhattan Beach, California; he graduated from Loyola High
8 School (Los Angeles, California), Creighton, University, and
9 Creighton University School of Medicine, where he earned Alpha
10 Omega Alpha honors; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Dr. Boken was married to his wife, Rose Ann, for
12 45 years; they highly valued the education of their children;
13 all 9 children were college graduates, with several obtaining
14 advanced degrees and 2 following in their father's footsteps as
15 physicians; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Dr. Boken was highly respected professionally and
17 served as president of the medical staff at St. Vincent Medical
18 Center in Los Angeles, California, during a career that spanned
19 5 decades; he was part of a medical group that was among the
20 first physicians to manage hemodialysis treatment for patients
21 with kidney failure; he retired from private practice in 1994;
22 and
 
23     WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Charles Boken, M.D., has
24 been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Rose Ann; his
25 children and their spouses, Annette, Paul (Lisa), Daniel (Lori
26 Anne), John (Susan), Philip (Anna), Kathryn Welsh (Patrick),
27 Michael (Patricia), Joseph, and Emily; his 16 grandchildren;
28 his sister, Roberta Fisher (Charles); and their children and
29 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
30     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL

1 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2 Dr. Robert Boken, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
3 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4 further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Dr. Robert Boken as an expression of
7 our sincere condolences.
