SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were saddened
3 to learn of the death of Elizabeth "Betty" Jacoby of Godfrey on
4 April 23, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Betty" Jacoby is a native of Portland,
6 Maine; she was born to Earle and Margaret Jacoby; she received
7 an associate's degree from Colby Junior College in New
8 Hampshire and a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in
9 Syracuse, New York; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Some mutual friends introduced Mrs. Jacoby to
11 Casper John Jacoby III of Alton, who had just graduated from
12 the Harvard Business School and was working for the Olin Corp.,
13 in New Haven, Connecticut; they were married in 1954; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The couple moved to Godfrey in 1961 and joined in
15 the family-owned Jacoby Furniture Co. in Alton, which was
16 started in 1883; while serving as director of the company, Mrs.
17 Jacoby devoted more than 40 years of volunteer work to the
18 Alton area; she served as president of the Chapter GG PEO
19 Sisterhood and was an avid volunteer to the Junior Service
20 League and the Alton Community Service League; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacoby was a longtime member of the First
22 Presbyterian Church in Alton, where she and a group of women
23 volunteered their time tutoring children in the Alton school
24 system for more than 10 years; and
 
25     WHEREAS, In 2000, Mrs. Jacoby and her husband received the
26 Circle of Care Award by the Riverbend Head Start and Family
27 Services for a lifetime of committed service to the community;
28 and
 
29     WHEREAS, The passing of Elizabeth "Betty" Jacoby will be

1 deeply felt by many, especially her husband, Casper John Jacoby
2 III; her daughter, Karen Sinunu; her son, Casper John Jacoby
3 IV; her two sisters, Margaret Fleming and Jane Painter; and her
4 four grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7 Elizabeth "Betty" Jacoby along with all who knew and loved her
8 and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and
9 community; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Elizabeth "Betty" Jacoby as an
12 expression of our deepest sympathy.
