SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply
3 saddened to learn of the tragic death of Lance Cpl. Torrey
4 Stoffel-Gray of Patoka on April 11, 2004 in Fallujah, Iraq; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Torrey Stoffel-Gray was born on December 17, 1984,
6 in Indianapolis the son of Jerry and Mary (Henson) Stoffel; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He lived his life in Salem and Patoka; he attended
8 Patoka High School and after graduation attended the Lincoln
9 Challenge Military Academy in Rantoul; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in
11 2002 and had his initial training at the Marine Corp Recruit
12 Depot in San Diego; he was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon, a
13 Presidential Unit Citation, a National Defense Service Medal, a
14 Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Purple Heart; and
 
15     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Cpl. Torrey Stoffel-Gray will
16 be deeply felt by many, especially his parents, Jerry and Mary
17 (Henson) Stoffel; his grandparents, Martha Stoffel and Robert
18 and Linda Gray; his great-grandmother, Marion Patterson; his
19 three brothers, Brandon Stoffel-Gray, Russell Stoffel, and
20 Blake Stoffel; his 11 uncles and aunts, Jeff and Elizabeth
21 Stoffel, Rebecca and Dean Veal, Sheila and Rick Plemons, Betty
22 Haley, Sarah and Bruce Duncan, and Judy and Dwayne Greene; and
23 his fiancee, Kari Atchison; and
 
24     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his grandparents,
25 Russell Stoffel and Louis and Sylvia Henson; therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
28 Lance Cpl. Torrey Stoffel-Gray along with all who knew and
29 loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his family,

1 friends, and community; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Cpl. Torrey
3 Stoffel-Gray and his willingness to serve our great nation
4 which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the family of Lance Cpl. Torrey Stoffel-Gray as an
8 expression of our deepest sympathy.
