SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Arthur "Bunny" Thornton on April 6, 2004; and

WHEREAS, He was born on August 14, 1915, on Columbian Ranch near Eldred, the son of Henry Holly and Lula Alma Deeds Thornton; he married Wilma Cummings on March 22, 1939, and she preceded him in death in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thornton served in the United States Army in Germany during World War II; he was a State worker and retired in 1990 at 74; he was a lifelong Democrat and served as precinct committeeman in Rockbridge 2 for many years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Thornton belonged to Charity Southern Baptist Church; he lived his life to the fullest and was dedicated to his family; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Arthur "Bunny" Thornton will be deeply felt by many, especially his daughters, Sharon Joyce (husband, David) Custer, Rita Kay Walden, and Monze Lou (husband, Don) Chapman; his son, Arthur Gregory (wife, Denise); his nine grandchildren; his 16 great-grandchildren; and his great-great-granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Wilma, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Louis, and Harold; his sister, Ollie Fell; his daughter, Shirley Jean Snyder Giberson; and two great-great-granddaughters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Arthur "Bunny" Thornton along with all who knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Arthur "Bunny" Thornton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
