SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Dr. James R. McAnelly on Tuesday, January 6, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly was born on March 16, 1932, in Bloomington to Clyde and Virginia (Jett) McAnelly; he was educated at Mooseheart and was on the 1950 undefeated football team; during his senior year, he was awarded All-State in football; he was a member of the Hall of Fame at Mooseheart; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly received a B.S. degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he received an athletic scholarship for football; he received a master's degree and Ed.D. degree from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly was one of the founding teachers at Waubonsee Community College (WCC), Sugar Grove, where he taught business for 30 years; in addition to teaching at WCC, he was a foreign studies director, and led groups to the United Kingdom, Europe, and China; he also taught at Northern Illinois University at DeKalb, East Aurora High School, and Haines Junior High School in St. Charles; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly was the author of two college textbooks, "Business Mathematics for College" and "Fundamentals of Retailing", which are in the Library of Congress; he was a member of Delta Pi Epsilon and was listed in "Who's Who in American Law" in 1985; for 30 years, he was an IHSA certified swimming official and did most of his officiating at Marmion Academy; he was an Eagle Scout; he played the euphonium for the American Legion for many years; after retiring from teaching, he taught discus for the track team at Holy Angels School for three years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McAnelly will be remembered as a very caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend; his passing has been deeply felt by many, but especially by his wife, Patricia; his sons, Michael (Tina), Robert (Laura), and James; his grandchildren, Matt, Beth, Kate, Robbie, and Ashley; his sisters, Pat Deiter and Karen Miller; his nieces, Mary (Bob) Erickson and Laura (Steve) Goldfarb; his nephews, Joe Miller, Kevin (Amy) Staas, Peter, Greg, and David Staas; his mother-in-law, Lucille Staas; his brothers-in-law, John (Zee) Staas and James (Cynthia) Staas; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. James R. McAnelly, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. James R. McAnelly as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
