SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of John E. "Eddie" Shevlin of
4 Sorento on Friday, January 23, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Shevlin was born January 3, 1917, in East St.
6 Louis to William E. and Katie, nee Fitzgearl, Shevlin; he
7 valiantly served his country during World War II in the U.S.
8 Navy; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Shevlin was an assistant business agent from
10 1959 to 1968 and a business agent from 1968 to 1978 for
11 Laborers Local 100, where he had been a member since 1936; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Shevlin was a member of the Salvation Army for
13 50 years; a former member of St. Phillip Catholic Church, East
14 St. Louis; and a member of the Knights of Columbus 592, East
15 St. Louis, for 50 years; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The passing of John E. "Eddie" Shevlin has been
17 deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Dorothy, nee
18 Birchler, Shevlin; his children, Ronald (Kathi) Shevlin, Joyce
19 (Bill) Halcomb, Dennis Shevlin, and Bruce (Sue) Shevlin; his
20 grandchildren, Kimberly Shevlin, Scott (Terri) Shevlin, Carol
21 Reckamp, Rich Reckamp, Matt (Debbie) Reckamp, Brad (Tina)
22 Reckamp, Julie Shevlin, Mark Shevlin, and John, Bret, and Katie
23 Shevlin; his great-grandchildren, James, Brian, Briana, and
24 Autumn; his brothers, Joseph (Till) Shevlin, Thomas (Bonnie)
25 Shevlin, and George P. (Dolores) Shevlin; and his sisters,
26 Virginia Pruett and Gertrude (Joe) Caldwell; therefore, be it
 
27     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
29 John E. "Eddie" Shevlin, and we extend our sincerest
30 condolences to his friends, family, and all who knew and loved

1 him; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of John E. "Eddie" Shevlin as an
4 expression of our deepest sympathy for their loss.
