SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of George J. Walsh of
4 Belleville on Monday, January 19, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Walsh was born on February 1, 1923, in St.
6 Louis, Missouri, to Joseph and Edna, nee Smith, Walsh; he
7 married Mary Jean Sage; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Walsh valiantly served his country in the
9 United States Marine Corps during World War II in the 4th
10 Marine Division, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and
11 Purple Heart; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Walsh served as a public relations director at
13 IDOT, where he retired in May of 2003; he was a former
14 tournament official for the PGA and a coach and teacher at
15 Central Catholic High School in East St. Louis; he enjoyed bass
16 fishing, hunting, golf, and animals, especially the family
17 pets; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Mr. Walsh was a member of the Knights of Columbus,
19 the VFW, the American Legion, BASS, and the St. Clair County
20 Country Club; and
 
21     WHEREAS, The passing of George J. Walsh has been deeply
22 felt by many, especially his wife, Mary Jean, nee Sage, Walsh;
23 his children, Kay (Gary) Vogel, Michael (Melissa) Walsh, and
24 Margaret Walsh; his grandchildren who lovingly called him
25 "Dubs", Jean (Michael) Wagner, Jessica and Kelly Walsh, Michael
26 Rokos, Melanie (Brian) Donovan, Nicholas Rokos, and Daniel
27 Murphy; his great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Michael John
28 Wagner and Katelyn Donovan; and his extended family, Debbie and
29 Lester Wellinghoff; he was preceded in death by his parents and
30 his infant grandson, Michael George Walsh; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 George J. Walsh, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his
4 friends, family, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the family of Mr. Walsh as an expression of our
8 deepest sympathy.
