SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Virginia S. "Suzy" Hubbard of Grayslake on November 20, 2003; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hubbard was born in Buffalo, and her family moved to Grayslake when she was young; after high school, she became an office worker at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, where she met her husband, Kenneth, a corpsman; when they were 19, they got married and settled in Grayslake; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Hubbard worked as a receptionist for a doctor and as a homemaker before joining the College of Lake County; she worked as a clerk and stenographer in the admissions department when the college opened in 1969; the College was housed in a few trailers in a former cornfield and had more than 2,300 students registered choosing among 224 courses; she moved up the ranks as the college grew to almost 16,000 students, whose registration for more than 2,500 courses has been increasingly done over the phone or via computer; she became office supervisor for admissions and records in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Her dedication to the students was among her compelling reasons for continuing to work long past the age when many retire; when not working with the students, she supervised about a dozen staff members, training them how to handle calls, enroll students, conduct enrollment verification, order degree audits, evaluate credit transfers, set the calendar, and organize graduation ceremonies; and

WHEREAS, Virginia "Suzy" Hubbard's passing will be deeply felt by many, especially her sons, Kurt, Ken, and Larry; her daughter, Mary Hubbard Slavik; her daughter-in-law, Beverly Hubbard; and her five grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Virginia S. "Suzy" Hubbard along with all who knew and loved her and extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Virginia S. "Suzy" Hubbard as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
