 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Senate  of  the  State  of
 3    Illinois  were  saddened  to  learn  of  the death of Anna E.
 4    Barnstable, M.D., of Lindenhurst, on  April 22, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Born on May 31, 1916 in Gurnee to Edith (Wilson)
 6    and Ernest Barnstable, Dr. Barnstable was a lifelong resident
 7    of Lake County graduating from Waukegan High School in  1933;
 8    in 1937 she graduated cum laude from Lake Forest College then
 9    studied  at  Michael  Reese  Hospital  in Chicago to become a
10    clinical laboratory medical technologist; she entered medical
11    school at the University of Illinois Chicago campus  in  1945
12    and  received her M.D. in 1949; she served both an internship
13    and residency in anesthesiology at Grant Hospital in Chicago;
14    and

15        WHEREAS, Dr. Barnstable returned to Waukegan  and  became
16    the first Board Certified physician anesthesiologist to serve
17    the  community;  during  her career she served on the medical
18    staffs of many area hospitals, focusing most of her  practice
19    years at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan; and

20        WHEREAS,  A  long-time member and former president of the
21    Chicago Society of Anesthesiologists, Dr. Barnstable  retired
22    from  her  medical practice in 1986; in 1992, she was awarded
23    an Alumni Distinguished Service  Citation  from  Lake  Forest
24    College; and

25        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Barnstable traveled extensively around the
26    world during her life,  including  excursions  to  all  seven
27    continents;  she  attended a variety of post-graduate medical
28    seminars, visiting hospitals and  operating  rooms  from  the
29    QE-2  cruise  ship,  the  Bush  Hospitals  in Africa, and the
30    hospital at the Chilean Air Force Base at Antarctica; one  of
31    her  favorite  past-times was overseeing the operation of her
32    family's farm in Kansas; and

 1        WHEREAS, Dr. Barnstable will  long  be  remembered  as  a
 2    meticulous,  compassionate,  and caring physician by her many
 3    patients,  hospital  employees,  and  physician   colleagues;
 4    therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
 6    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the  passing
 7    of  Anna  E.  Barnstable,  M.D.  and  express our sincere and
 8    deepest sympathy to her family and friends; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
10    presented  to  the  family  of Anna E. Barnstable, M.D. as an
11    expression  of  our  condolences   during   their   time   of
12    bereavement.
