 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Anthony Rediger and Stefanie  Vollmer,  esteemed
 3    residents  of  Gurnee  and  students  at Warren Township High
 4    School, have  achieved  national  recognition  for  exemplary
 5    volunteer  service  by  being named 2003 Prudential Spirit of
 6    Community Award Distinguished Finalists; and

 7        WHEREAS,   These   prestigious   awards,   presented   by
 8    Prudential  Financial  in  partnership  with   the   National
 9    Association  of  Secondary  School  Principals,  honor  young
10    volunteers   across   America   who   have   demonstrated  an
11    extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

12        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Rediger  earned  this  award   by   giving
13    generously  of  his time and energy by volunteering at a home
14    for HIV-positive individuals; while  visiting  regularly,  he
15    built   friendships   with  the  residents;  he  organized  a
16    fundraiser that helped purchase a computer for the home; and

17        WHEREAS, Ms. Vollmer  earned  this  award  by  persuading
18    Governor  George  Ryan  to  sign a proclamation declaring the
19    week of September 8 through September 14 as "Everyday  Heroes
20    Week" in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks; and

21        WHEREAS,  The  success  of  the  State  of  Illinois, the
22    strength of our communities,  and  the  overall  vitality  of
23    American   society   depends,  in  great  measure,  upon  the
24    dedication of young people like Mr. Rediger and  Ms.  Vollmer
25    who  used  their  considerable talents and resources to serve
26    others; therefore, be it

27        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
28    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29    we congratulate and honor Mr. Rediger  and  Ms.  Vollmer  for
30    being  named Distinguished Finalists of the Prudential Spirit
31    of Community Award and recognize their outstanding record  of

 1    volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit; and
 2    be it further

 3        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 4    presented to Anthony Rediger and Stefanie Vollmer as a  token
 5    of  our respect and esteem and with our best wishes for their
 6    continued success and happiness.
