| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Dr. Iqbal Akhtar |
| 4 |
| on the occasion of his retirement as economics professor at |
| 5 |
| Blackburn College; a celebration will be held in his honor on |
| 6 |
| Saturday, April 3, 2004, at McKinley House at Blackburn |
| 7 |
| College; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Akhtar received a Bachelor of Science from |
| 9 |
| Punjab Agricultural College in Pakistan; he earned a Master of |
| 10 |
| Science from the University of Philippines and his Ph.D. from |
| 11 |
| Texas A & M University; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Akhtar came to Blackburn College in 1982 and |
| 13 |
| is the acting Chair of the Department of Economics; his good |
| 14 |
| nature and wisdom in decision-making was always evident and |
| 15 |
| helped grow a Business Department that is the second most |
| 16 |
| popular major among Blackburn's students; as a student advisor |
| 17 |
| and mentor, Dr. Akhtar is always willing to lend a helping hand |
| 18 |
| as students are always his top priority; his gentle demeanor, |
| 19 |
| acts of kindness, and appreciation for others have made a |
| 20 |
| lasting impression on his students throughout the years; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, As a professional economist, Dr. Akhtar keeps |
| 22 |
| current in his discipline by maintaining regular membership in |
| 23 |
| professional and scholarly organizations and attending or |
| 24 |
| participating in professional meetings, workshops, and |
| 25 |
| seminars; he is a member of the American Economic Association |
| 26 |
| and the Midwest Economic Association; therefore, be it
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 28 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 29 |
| congratulate Dr. Iqbal Akhtar on the occasion of his |
