HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, There are few positive programs for inmates at Stateville Prison, a maximum-security prison with about 2,700 inmates; and

WHEREAS, Stateville Speaks is a newspaper written entirely by inmates and printed by voluntary donations at no cost to the Department of Corrections; and

WHEREAS, Stateville Speaks provides inmates an opportunity for self-expression and promotes a safe environment at Stateville Prison; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we strongly urge the Department of Corrections to allow inmates at Stateville Prison to publish a quarterly newspaper, with each issue being approved by the Department of Corrections before distribution; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Department of Corrections.
