 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of Illinois are pleased to recognize Dr. Patricia
 4    Pickles for her extensive accomplishments  in  the  field  of
 5    education  and for the enormous contributions she has made to
 6    North Chicago Community Unit School District 187; and

 7        WHEREAS, Under the leadership of  Dr.  Pickles,  District
 8    187  made  tremendous  strides; some of the highlights of her
 9    tenure as superintendent include improving ISAT  test  scores
10    in  district  by  64%;  re-establishing adult night education
11    classes, strengthening and expanding the  preschool  program,
12    developing  an  internal  quality  review  plan,  creating  a
13    parents/school liaison position, implementing a uniform dress
14    code  policy, developing a District Administrative Procedures
15    Manual,  updating  curriculum,  increasing  the   number   of
16    elementary counselors, opening a new math and science academy
17    for  middle  schoolers,  completing  the largest construction
18    project in the history of the district, and helping to remove
19    all schools of District 187 from the State's  Academic  Watch
20    List; and

21        WHEREAS, Dr. Pickles has expended an extraordinary amount
22    of  energy  in  the  accumulation  of  funds  for educational
23    purposes; she secured well over $14,545,000  in  funding  for
24    the  school  district  over her almost 6 year tenure with the
25    district;  she  has  met  with  numerous  State  and  federal
26    government officials as well as national school organizations
27    to discuss  the  progress  and  strategy  that  has  been  so
28    successful in District 187; and

29        WHEREAS, Dr. Pickles clearly displays a sense of equality
30    and  idealism  by insisting all childrens' academic standards
31    be equally consistent; she has shown the courage  to  believe
32    that  academic  change  in  a  system  is  possible  and then

 1    relentlessly striven for that change; she has made tremendous
 2    literary and educational contributions in her  personal  life
 3    as  well  as  her  public life and has exhibited diligence in
 4    professional development actions for educational instructors;
 5    therefore, be it

 6        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 7    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 8    we commend Dr. Patricia Pickles for  tireless  work  for  the
 9    North  Chicago Community Unit School District 187 and for the
10    equality of students everywhere; and be it further

11        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
12    presented  to  Dr. Patricia Pickles as a token of our respect
13    and esteem.
