 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  Television  station  KHQA  is   celebrating   a
 3    milestone  this  year  with  its 50th anniversary; KHQA first
 4    signed on the air in  Hannibal,  Missouri  on  September  23,
 5    1953; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Some  of  the  personalities of the day brought
 7    viewers news and family programs such as the Cactus Jim Show,
 8    Rono the Clown, live studio concerts,  talk  shows,  and  the
 9    station's own cooking show; and

10        WHEREAS,  A  year later, the station moved to the Western
11    Catholic Union Building in Quincy,  Illinois  which  put  the
12    station  at  the  heart  of the city and gave everyone at the
13    station a great view of the Mississippi River; in  1998,  the
14    station  moved to a new building on South 36th Street that is
15    equipped  with  state-of-the-art  technology;  recently   the
16    station  added  a  high  definition transmitter which brought
17    true high definition television to West Central Illinois; and

18        WHEREAS, From the beginning, KHQA was a sister station to
19    AM radio station WTAD, and later became a sister  station  to
20    FM  radio  station  WQCY;  the stations parted ways when they
21    were sold to separate owners in 1986; KHQA's current owner is
22    Chelsey Broadcasting Co.,  LLC  of  Garden  City,  New  York;
23    therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
25    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
26    we  congratulate KHQA on the occasion of the 50th anniversary
27    of its first broadcast; and be it further

28        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
29    presented  to KHQA as an expression of respect and esteem for
30    its many years of service to West Central Illinois.
