 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, National  Black  Nurses  Day  was  initiated  by
 3    Alicia  Georges  in  1989  to  celebrate the contributions of
 4    African American Nurses in the health care field; through the
 5    efforts of Honorable Charles B. Rangel, February 3, 1989  was
 6    declared  as  the First National Black Nurses Day in the U.S.
 7    House of Representatives; and

 8        WHEREAS, Each year during African American History Month,
 9    the first Friday in February is recognized as National  Black
10    Nurses Day and is celebrated throughout the country; and

11        WHEREAS,   In   honor   of   this  prestigious  day,  the
12    Kennedy-King College's Chapter of the National Student Nurses
13    Association  celebrates  the   contributions   that   African
14    American Nurses have made in the health care field; and

15        WHEREAS,  Kennedy-King  College's Chapter of the National
16    Student Nurses Association is  dedicated  to  continuing  the
17    legacy  of  providing  quality  health  care  and educational
18    services throughout the community; these services include the
19    following:  Annual  Blood  Drives  in  conjunction  with  the
20    American Red  Cross;  HIV  Education  and  Screening  through
21    Roseland  Community  Hospital  Association; Clothing and Food
22    Drives for Homeless and  Shelters;  Mental  Health/Depression
23    Education  and  Screening; Blood Pressure Screening; Diabetes
24    Education; and STD Education and Screening; therefore, be it

25        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
26    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27    we do hereby recognize the first Friday in February  (African
28    American  History Month), as National Black Nurses Day and we
29    honor Kennedy-King College's Chapter of the National  Student
30    Nurses'  Association  for its continued commitment to quality
31    health care and educational services to the community; and be
32    it further

 1        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 2    presented  to  the  Kennedy-King  College's  Chapter  of  the
 3    National  Student  Nurses'  Association  with our respect and
 4    esteem.
