 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of  Illinois wish to congratulate the members and
 4    coaches of the boys track team of Thornwood  High  School  in
 5    South  Holland  on winning their third straight IHSA Class AA
 6    boys track team championship at the 109th Annual  Boys  State
 7    Track and Field Meet on Saturday, May 31, 2003; and

 8        WHEREAS,  The Thornwood Thunderbirds won the championship
 9    with a Class  AA  record  of  78  points,  with  the  closest
10    competitor  scoring 33 points; most of the points amassed for
11    the team were in the speed running events, the  hurdles,  the
12    relay  races,  and  the long jump, with the team taking first
13    place in 5 of 19 events; the Thunderbirds are the first  team
14    to  win  3  State  consecutive Class AA titles since East St.
15    Louis Lincoln won from 1981 to 1984; and

16        WHEREAS, Leslie Majors placed first in the long jump with
17    a jump of 24 feet and 1 and 3/4 inches; Keith Hopkins  placed
18    first  in  the  110-meter  high  hurdles with a time of 14.30
19    seconds; Jeremy Johnson placed first in  the  400-meter  dash
20    with  a time of 48.87 seconds and first in the 200-meter dash
21    with a time of 21.68 seconds; Stephen Taylor placed third  in
22    the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.16 seconds and second in
23    the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.88 seconds; and

24        WHEREAS,  The  4x100-meter  relay  team of Leslie Majors,
25    Stephen Taylor, Floyd Davis, and Jeremy Johnson placed  first
26    with  a  time of 42.24 seconds; the 4x200-meter relay team of
27    Floyd Davis,  Andre'  Butler,  DeAndre  Tillman,  and  Leslie
28    Majors  placed  fifth  with  a  time  of  1  minute and 29.02
29    seconds; and

30        WHEREAS, The coach of the Thunderbirds is  Gary  Haupert;
31    therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 2    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
 3    we congratulate the members and coaches of the Thornwood High
 4    School  boys  track  team  on winning their third consecutive
 5    IHSA Class AA Boys Track and Field Championship;  and  be  it
 6    further

 7        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 8    presented to each of the members and coaches of the Thornwood
 9    High School Thunderbirds boys track team as an expression  of
10    our  respect  and  esteem  and  with  best  wishes for future
11    success.
