 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, It has  come  to  our  attention  that  Gary  L.
 3    Grzanich  of Canton is retiring from his position as Regional
 4    Superintendent of Schools for Fulton  and  Schuyler  Counties
 5    after over 28 years of service; and

 6        WHEREAS,   Mr.   Grzanich   attended   Western   Illinois
 7    University  for  his bachelor's degree and Bradley University
 8    for his master's degree; he holds an  Educational  Specialist
 9    Degree from Western Illinois University; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Grzanich  has  11  years  of  teaching and
11    coaching experience and served  2  years  with  the  Illinois
12    State  Board  of  Education;  he  was  first elected Regional
13    Superintendent of Fulton  County  in  1974;  his  region  was
14    expanded to include Schuyler County in 1994; he is completing
15    his   seventh   term;   he   is  a  member  of  the  Regional
16    Superintendents' Association, Illinois Association of  School
17    Administrators,  Phi  Delta  Kappa,  Illinois Association for
18    Supervision  and  Curriculum  Development,  Association   for
19    Supervision and Curriculum Development and is a member of the
20    Superintendent's  Round  Table at both Bradley University and
21    Western Illinois University; and

22        WHEREAS, Mr. Grzanich was  a  past  member  of  the  Blue
23    Ribbon Committee for Teacher Preparation and Training, a past
24    member   of   the  State  Certification  Board,  chairman  of
25    Mid-Illini Education Cooperative, and a member  of  Area  III
26    Regional Superintendents' Association; and

27        WHEREAS, Mr. Grzanich has played a very important role in
28    the  success  of  the  schools  in  his region; he introduced
29    teaching and evaluation methods as well as promoting the Fine
30    Arts through comprehensive grants,  initiating  an  institute
31    day  for  the  gifted  students, bringing the substance abuse
32    DARE  Program  to  Fulton  County  students,  promoting   and

 1    establishing    cooperation    and    communication   between
 2    educational personnel, initiating the GED Testing Program  in
 3    Fulton  County,  initiating  a  Beginning  Teacher  Induction
 4    Program,  and  he  made  numerous  other contributions to the
 5    field of education and  the  youth  of  Fulton  and  Schuyler
 6    Counties; and

 7        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Grzanich  has  earned  the  esteem  of the
 8    educational community  he  serves  and  the  respect  of  his
 9    colleagues; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Grzanich  is  married  to  Dian and is the
11    father of two children, Susan, who is an assistant  principal
12    in  Peoria, and Jon, who is a teacher and coach in Canton; he
13    enjoys sports,  fishing,  and  hunting  in  his  spare  time;
14    therefore, be it

15        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
16    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
17    we  congratulate  Superintendent  Gary  L.  Grzanich  on  his
18    retirement  as  the  Regional  Superintendent  of Schools for
19    Fulton and Schuyler Counties and wish him well in the future;
20    and be it further

21        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
22    presented  to  Gary L. Grzanich as a token of our respect and
23    esteem.
