 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, A day at work will help  children  discover  the
 3    link  between  what  they  do now in school and what they can
 4    become in the future; they have the  opportunity  to  witness
 5    first-hand the vital services that their parents provide each
 6    day; and

 7        WHEREAS,  It  is  the intent that this event will inspire
 8    children  to  open  their  eyes  to  new  possibilities,  and
 9    encourage future careers in  science,  business,  technology,
10    government, etc.; and

11        WHEREAS,  A  day  in  the  lives  of  their  parents will
12    reinforce children's ambitions and help them  understand  the
13    relationship between academic achievements and success in the
14    work place; and

15        WHEREAS,  Complaining  that too many children are missing
16    school to shadow mom or dad at the  office  each  April,  the
17    nation's  largest  teachers  union  suggests  that the annual
18    "Take Your Kid To Work Day" should be moved  to  June  or  be
19    held during school vacations; and

20        WHEREAS,  Teachers  often  put lessons on hold because of
21    the annual event, which every  year  pairs  an  estimated  11
22    million  children with adults in the workplace; therefore, be
23    it

24        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
25    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26    we encourage Illinois businesses to adopt the "Take Your  Kid
27    To  Work  Day"  as  an opportunity for kids to understand the
28    relationship between academic achievements and success in the
29    work place; and be it further

30        RESOLVED, That the  State  of  Illinois  encourages  this
31    "Take Your Kid To Work Day" to occur during the summer months

 1    or   during  school  vacations,  preventing  any  unnecessary
 2    absence from their normal, quality education.
