 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, It has come  to  our  attention  that  Dale  Van
 3    Harlingen,  University  of Illinois Professor and resident of
 4    Champaign, has been recognized for his  excellent  scientific
 5    contributions  by  being  elected  to the National Academy of
 6    Sciences; and

 7        WHEREAS, Professor Van Harlingen is a research  professor
 8    of physics in the Materials Research Laboratory and the Micro
 9    and  Nanotechnology Laboratory at the University of Illinois;
10    and

11        WHEREAS,  Professor  Van  Harlingen's  research  involves
12    experimental low temperature physics, superconductivity,  and
13    microfabrication  of  superconductor devices; he received his
14    bachelor's  and  doctorate  degrees  from  the   Ohio   State
15    University; and

16        WHEREAS,   Professor   Van   Harlingen   has  made  major
17    contributions throughout his career to the  understanding  of
18    the  behavior  of  materials  which  are  superconducting and
19    quantum information; he has proven to  be  a  leader  in  the
20    field of physics; and

21        WHEREAS, Professor Van Harlingen has earned the esteem of
22    the  science  community  he  serves  and  the  respect of his
23    colleagues; therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
25    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26    we  congratulate  Professor  Dale  Van   Harlingen   on   the
27    recognition of his important scientific contributions and his
28    election  to  the  National  Academy  of  Sciences; and be it
29    further

30        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
31    presented  to  Professor Dale Van Harlingen as a token of our
