 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the   State   of   Illinois  are  pleased  to  recognize  the
 4    accomplishments of citizens of the State; and

 5        WHEREAS, Jim Bowers of Bloomington has been selected  for
 6    induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame; and

 7        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Bowers  is  a  graduate  of Illinois State
 8    University; he taught at Bloomington High  School  from  1955
 9    until  1984;  in 29 years as a wrestling coach, he compiled a
10    dual meet record of 303-157-7; he earned 14 district  titles,
11    10  conference  championships,  four sectional championships,
12    and led his 1972 team to a fifth place State finish; and

13        WHEREAS, Mr. Bowers  was  named  the  Illinois  Wrestling
14    Coaches and Officials Association's Coach of the Year in 1972
15    and  was  inducted  into  that organization's Hall of Fame in
16    1985; he is a member of the Halls of Fame for Illinois  State
17    Athletics  and  the Bloomington-Normal Officials Association;
18    and

19        WHEREAS, In addition to his tenure as a  wrestling  coach
20    in  which  he guided 42 State qualifiers and 12 wrestlers who
21    placed  in  State,  Mr.  Bowers  headed  the  Purple  Raiders
22    football team for 18 years and won  back-to-back  golf  State
23    titles in 1964 and 1965; therefore, be it

24        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
25    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
26    we  congratulate  Jim  Bowers  on  being  inducted  into  the
27    National Wrestling Hall of Fame; and be it further

28        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
29    presented to Jim Bowers as a token of our respect and esteem.
