 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Earning the highest  achievement  award  of  the
 3    Girl  Scouts  of  the  U.S.A.,  the  Girl  Scout  Gold Award,
 4    symbolizes  outstanding  accomplishments  in  the  areas   of
 5    leadership,  community service, career planning, and personal
 6    development; the award can be earned by girls aged 14  to  17
 7    or in grades 9 through 12; and

 8        WHEREAS,  To  receive the Gold Award, the Girl Scout must
 9    earn four Interest Project Patches,  the  Career  Exploration
10    Pin,  the  Senior Girl Scout Leadership Award, and the Senior
11    Girl Scout Challenge, as well as design and implement a  Girl
12    Scout  Gold  Award  project;  a  plan  for  fulfilling  these
13    requirements  is  created  by  the  Senior  Girl Scout and is
14    carried out in close cooperation with the girl and  an  adult
15    Girl Scout volunteer; and

16        WHEREAS,  Six members of the Girl Scouts-Kickapoo Council
17    will  receive  the  Girl  Scout  Gold  Award  at  the  Annual
18    Recognition Banquet on May 4, 2003; the girls receiving  this
19    prestigious  award  are Jacy Brasher, Monica Edwards, Lindsay
20    Furr, Katherine Grady, Laura Handrich, and  Cassie  Whitsitt;
21    and

22        WHEREAS,  Jacy  Brasher  is  a member of Girl Scout Troop
23    #1000; she is a senior at East Peoria Community High  School;
24    for  her  project,  she  gathered  holiday  presents for less
25    fortunate children in the community; and

26        WHEREAS, Monica Edwards is a member of Girl  Scout  Troop
27    #555;  she  is  a  senior  at Notre Dame High School; for her
28    project, she developed and  executed  a  one-day  event  that
29    addressed important topics for teens including breast cancer,
30    healthy  eating, teen pregnancy, skin cancer, depression, and
31    suicide; and

 1        WHEREAS, Lindsay Furr is a member  of  Girl  Scout  Troop
 2    #555 and is a senior at Elmwood High School; for her project,
 3    she  developed  a  website  for the Elmwood Bicentennial Book
 4    which features information about the book and  in  the  book;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS,  Katherine Grady is a member of Girl Scout Troop
 7    #35 and is a senior at Peoria High School; for  her  project,
 8    she  planted  a  butterfly  garden and labeled the plants and
 9    trees on a nature trail  for  educational  purposes  for  the
10    children attending Pleasant Valley School; and

11        WHEREAS,  Laura  Handrich is a member of Girl Scout Troop
12    #1000 and is a student at Illinois Central College;  for  her
13    project,  she  gathered  holiday  presents for less fortunate
14    children in the community; and

15        WHEREAS, Cassie Whitsitt is a member of Girl Scout  Troop
16    #47  and  is  a  senior  at  Lewistown  High  School; for her
17    project, she planned and executed  the  Fulton  County  blood
18    drives; therefore, be it

19        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
20    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
21    we  congratulate  Jacy Brasher, Monica Edwards, Lindsay Furr,
22    Katherine Grady,  Laura  Handrich,  and  Cassie  Whitsitt  on
23    earning  the  Girl  Scout  Gold  Award,  and we recognize the
24    significant effort and time that  each  girl  contributed  in
25    order to earn the award; and be it further

26        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
27    presented to Jacy  Brasher,  Monica  Edwards,  Lindsay  Furr,
28    Katherine  Grady,  Laura  Handrich,  and Cassie Whitsitt as a
29    token of our respect and esteem.
