 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the State of Illinois wish to congratulate Barbara LaPiana on
 4    the occasion of her retirement as mayor of Lincolnshire; and

 5        WHEREAS,   Ms.   LaPiana   has  served  the  Lincolnshire
 6    community for the past twelve  years  as  mayor;  during  her
 7    tenure   as   mayor  there  have  been  many  accomplishments
 8    including building and occupying a new Village Hall, annexing
 9    Stevenson High School and the Vernon Area Public Library, the
10    renovation of all town parks and development  of  new  parks,
11    street  improvements,  building  the  first  section  of  the
12    downtown  North Village Green, the development of many areas,
13    and welcoming many new businesses to town; and

14        WHEREAS, During the past 12 years, Lincolnshire  has  had
15    no  real  estate tax increase to residents and the population
16    has grown from 4,931 in 1991 to 6,300 in 2003; the  town  has
17    attained  an  optimum  ratio of residential (61%) to business
18    (39%) that assures a very favorable tax base; and

19        WHEREAS, Mayor LaPiana has previously served  in  several
20    capacities  in the community including 12 years on the School
21    Board for District 103,  where  she  was  President  for  six
22    years,  six  years on the School Board for District 125, past
23    President and Secretary of the Greater  Lincolnshire  Chamber
24    of  Commerce, the United Way of Lake County, where she served
25    as a Board Member for six years,  the  YMCA  of  Lake  County
26    Board,  the  Special Education District of Lake County, where
27    she was a past Executive Board Member and Foundation  Member,
28    and the Moraine Girl Scout Council, where she is an Executive
29    Board Member and was a past Finance Chair; and

30        WHEREAS,  Mayor  LaPiana  served  as  an  executive board
31    member for  the  Northwest  Municipal  Conference,  the  Lake
32    County  Municipal  League, and Metropolis 2020, and she was a

 1    board member of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; and

 2        WHEREAS, Mayor LaPiana is the Director of  Medical  Staff
 3    Development  at  the  University  of  Illinois  Chicago Weiss
 4    Hospital; she  worked  previously  in  recruitment  at  Grant
 5    Hospital   in   Chicago   and   as  the  Physician  Personnel
 6    Manager/Director of Managed Care at Medical Management,  Inc.
 7    in  Lincolnshire;  she  has attended City Colleges of Chicago
 8    and Wright College in Chicago as well as the College of  Lake
 9    County; and

10        WHEREAS,  She  is  the  mother  of  six  children and the
11    grandmother of 12 with one on the way; in her retirement, she
12    plans on spending more time with her family and working  with
13    charity organizations; therefore, be it

14        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
15    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
16    we  congratulate  Lincolnshire  Mayor  Barbara LaPiana on the
17    occasion of her retirement and thank her for  her  dedication
18    to the citizens of Lincolnshire; and be it further

19        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
20    presented to Barbara LaPiana as a token of  our  respect  and
21    esteem  and  with  best  wishes  for  a peaceful and relaxing
22    retirement.
