 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of  Illinois  are  pleased to honor organizations
 4    devoted to the arts; and

 5        WHEREAS, The Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra was born in
 6    1962 when Dr. Paul Hurwitz began talking to  local  musicians
 7    and  believed  that  the  time  was right to establish a high
 8    quality  community  orchestra;  the  Skokie  Valley  Symphony
 9    Orchestral  Association  was  incorporated  that  year  as  a
10    not-for-profit corporation in the State of  Illinois  and  is
11    the  parent organization of the Symphony; the first conductor
12    was Dr. Leon Stein; and

13        WHEREAS, During the years following, the orchestra became
14    a fine performing ensemble with a reputation  that  went  far
15    beyond  the  local  community  and  attracted  many  talented
16    musicians;  Daniel  Boico,  the  current  conductor and music
17    director, brings an excitement and love of music  which  both
18    the musicians and audiences respond to with great enthusiasm;
19    and

20        WHEREAS,   One   goal   of  the  Skokie  Valley  Symphony
21    Organization has been to encourage young, talented  musicians
22    to  bring  quality  classical  music  to their generation; to
23    accomplish this, in 1980 a Young Artist Competition was begun
24    to select the finest student  musicians  from  a  multi-state
25    area;  held annually since then, the winners are showcased in
26    one concert each season; and

27        WHEREAS, Natalia  Szadkowski  and  Irene  Lee  have  been
28    selected as the Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra Young Artist
29    Competition  winners and will be the featured soloists at The
30    North Shore Center for the Performing Arts  in  Skokie  in  a
31    concert  entitled  Around  the  World  on Sunday, January 26;
32    therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we commend the  Skokie  Valley  Symphony  Orchestra  for  its
 4    strong   commitment   to  quality  classical  music  and  the
 5    encouragement of young musicians; and be it further

 6        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 7    presented  to  the  Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra with our
 8    best wishes for its continued success.
