HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Loretta Murphy of Markham, the wife of former State Representative Harold Murphy, on November 25, 2004; and

WHEREAS, "Buttons" was born Loretta Wiggins on July 22, 1939 to Mary Young and Edward Wiggins in Eldorado, Arkansas; she was the eldest of five children, and was reared in Eldorado by her grandmother, Mary Woodard; and

WHEREAS, Loretta attended and completed school in Arkansas; she relocated to Chicago with her mother in 1957, where she attended the South Suburban College; and

WHEREAS, She married Harold Murphy on May 19, 1958, and they have three children; Loretta and Harold have been 41-year residents of the City of Markham, where Loretta has faithfully served and supported community and public service; and

WHEREAS, She united spiritual fellowship with Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church, and later with the Victory Christian Assembly Church, both in Markham; she was a member of the Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, Loretta was employed as an Administrative Secretary for the Cook County Department of Corrections and the Jesse "Ma" Houston Facility; through many years of loyal support to her husband's public service career, she affectionately earned the title of "Assistant State Representative"; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Edward; and her brothers, Earl Young, Jr. and Kevin Young; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Loretta Murphy will be felt by all who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Harold; her children, Vetonia Williams, Karen Murphy, and Cassandra (Frank) Jones; her grandchildren, Michael Ray Williams, Carolyn Earline Murphy, and Jeremiah Clyde Williams; her sisters, Alice Brooks and Adrian Myles Atkins; and a host of other relatives and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Loretta Murphy and we extend to her family our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
