HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Des Plaines Historical Society was
3 established in 1967 to preserve the community's history; and
 
4     WHEREAS, In 1968, the Society received its Charter and
5 opened the first Museum at the Kinder House; and
 
6     WHEREAS, By 1969, the first newsletter named the "COBWEB"
7 was issued; the newsletter continues today with six issues per
8 year; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The Museum hired its first director in 1970; and
 
10     WHEREAS, In 1985, the Historical Society entered into an
11 interlocal agreement with the City of Des Plaines and the Park
12 District; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The Museum, now known as the Des Plaines History
14 Center, has three locations throughout the city of Des Plaines
15 to better serve the community; and
 
16     WHEREAS, In 2004, The Des Plaines History Center was named
17 Mid-Sized Institution of the Year by the Illinois Association
18 of Museums; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The Des Plaines History Center plays a large role
20 as memory for a rapidly developing and changing community; it
21 does an outstanding job of integrating community and private
22 resources to better serve its constituents, and it has evolved
23 into a professional organization that bridges the generations
24 of yesterday, today, and tomorrow; therefore, be it
 
25     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
27 congratulate the Des Plaines History Center on the occasion of

1 its being named Mid-Sized Institution of the Year by the
2 Illinois Association of Museums, and we commend all those who
3 help the Des Plaines History Center provide such exemplary
4 service to the community; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the Des Plaines History Center as an expression of
7 our esteem.
