| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The People's Republic of China is participating in |
| 3 |
| the expansion of the Chicago Public Schools' internationally |
| 4 |
| recognized Chinese World Language Program by donating 1,000 |
| 5 |
| Mandarin language books in a ceremony at McCormick Elementary |
| 6 |
| School in Chicago, Illinois on November 18, 2004; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, This first annual donation represents an |
| 8 |
| important contribution to Chicago's Chinese World Language |
| 9 |
| Program, a program that is recognized by the Chinese National |
| 10 |
| Office of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language as a model |
| 11 |
| program; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, This donation lays a foundation for the further |
| 13 |
| expansion of the program, including three additional schools, |
| 14 |
| which will provide more than 1,000 new slots for students, |
| 15 |
| which currently includes 2,320 students at 12 Chicago Public |
| 16 |
| Schools; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The generous gift of the Chinese people will help |
| 18 |
| to connect Illinois students with relevant language and |
| 19 |
| cultural skills, prepare them for an increasingly global |
| 20 |
| marketplace, connect Illinois schools and educators with those |
| 21 |
| in China, and strengthen a bond with the Chinese people; |
| 22 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 25 |
| honor the People's Republic of China, Consul General Xu |
| 26 |
| Jinzhong, and the members of the Chinese delegation for their |
| 27 |
| contribution to the Chicago Public Schools, and we welcome them |
| 28 |
| to the State of Illinois; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
