HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to honor Jane O'Connor Kerr for her many contributions to the Ravinia Festival and the arts in Illinois and to honor the Life Trustees of the Ravinia Festival; and

WHEREAS, The Ravinia Festival is North America's oldest music festival and celebrates its centennial during the summer of 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Kerr has held many positions of distinction within the Ravinia Festival; she was the first woman member of the Ravinia Festival Board, was the president and a founding member of the Ravinia Festival Women's Board, and she has served as curator of three art expositions at the Ravinia Festival; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Kerr has contributed to the arts in Illinois in many other ways; she was appointed to the Illinois Arts Council by Governor Ogilvie in 1969 and was one of the longest serving members until 1994, a period of 25 years; she is a member of the Board of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art and the Education Committee of the Art Institute of Chicago; she chaired a committee of the Lyric Opera, was the founding president of the Chicago City Ballet, President of Ruth Pate's Ballet, a member of the City of Chicago Arts Council, a member of the Board of the Museum of Science and Industry, chairman of Young People for the Arts, chairman and first president of the Catholic Interracial Council, chairman of the Library of International Relations, and was a friend of the artists Copeland Berg, Ray Telasco, and Georges Roualt; and

WHEREAS, At a special dinner on August 3, 2004, the youngest members of the Ravinia family, The Associates, will salute the senior members, the Life Trustees and former chairmen of the Women's Board; and

WHEREAS, Life Trustee designation is given to those members who have served Ravinia for many years as a trustee or chairman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Jane O'Connor Kerr for her many contributions to the Ravinia Festival and the arts in Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the Life Trustees of the Ravinia Festival; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jane O'Connor Kerr and to the Life Trustees of the Ravinia Festival.
