HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize the outstanding life
4 accomplishments of Centralia native and Ladies Professional
5 Golf Association (LPGA) player Nancy Scranton; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Nancy Scranton graduated from Centralia High
7 School in 1979 where she was a member of the Orphan Annies golf
8 team; she collected most of her amateur victories in Illinois
9 where she won the 1983 Illinois Women's State Championship, the
10 1979, 1982, and 1983 Southern Illinois Championship and the
11 1981 and 1982 St. Louis Metro Championship; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Splitting her collegiate career between Florida
13 State and the University of Kentucky, she registered three
14 top-five finishes, including victories at the 1984 Western
15 Kentucky Invitational and the 1984 Southern Illinois
16 University Invitational; she was also named All-Southeastern
17 Conference in 1983; and
 
18     WHEREAS, In 1991, she became a Rolex First-Time Winner at
19 the du Maurier Ltd. Classic, where she barely made the cut
20 before tieing her career-low score of 64 in the third round to
21 move into contention; she also captured the Los Coyotes LPGA
22 Classic in 1992 when she shot 65 in the final round to make up a
23 seven-shot deficit; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Her golf career highlights include winning the
25 Subaru Memorial of Naples title in 2000 after a two-hole,
26 sudden death playoff with Maria Hjorth; and for the second year
27 in a row, she tied for third at the McDonald's LPGA; and
 
28     WHEREAS, She recorded the second hole-in-one of her career
29 during the first round of the Asahi Ryokuken International
30 Championship at Mount in 2003; also in 2003, she was co-winner

1 with Tracy Hanson of the 2003 Daytona Beach Florida Kiwanis
2 Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Award; and
 
3     WHEREAS, The Kaskaskia College Sports Association will be
4 hosting a dinner and silent auction honoring Nancy Scranton on
5 August 13, 2004, at the Centralia Elks; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 recognize and honor the many accomplishments of Nancy Scranton
9 and wish her well in all her future endeavors; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Nancy Scranton as a token of our admiration and
13 respect.
