HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate the Village of Onarga on the occasion of its sesquicentennial; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1854, Onarga is the home of Grand Prairie Seminary and has long been known as the educational center of East-Central Illinois; and

WHEREAS, This educational tradition continues through the Onarga Military School, the Onarga Academy, the Onarga Community School District #1, and the Iroquois West School District #10; and

WHEREAS, Onarga, which is situated on the Mahomet Aquifer, has abundant water resources and rich, sandy soil that produce some of the finest agricultural crops in the world; and

WHEREAS, Onarga is also known as "The Nursery Capital of the the Midwest", and products grown in Onarga are transported throughout the country; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Village of Onarga on the occasion of its sesquicentennial celebration on July 2, 3, and 4, 2004; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Village of Onarga as an expression of our respect and esteem.
