HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois remember the passing of Gordon H. Larsen of
4 Lake in the Hills on November 24, 2003 with great sadness; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Gordon H. Larsen was born in Milwaukee April 19,
6 1921; he served four years in the U.S. Army during World War
7 II; a member of the "Greatest Generation", Gordon H. Larsen was
8 in the fourth wave of infantry men at D-Day that invaded the
9 Nazi stronghold at Normandy Beach; he rescued wounded American
10 soldiers, as well as liberating the French when his regiment,
11 the 28th Infantry, marched into Paris; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In McHenry County, he was active in veteran
13 activities and even donated his 1943 Ford Jeep to the VFW; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was an entrepreneur, starting his own trucking
15 company in 1947; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Gordon and Joan, his wife of 57 years, moved to
17 Lake in the Hills in 1963 to a farm north of which is the bank
18 he later founded in 1995; he was Chairman of the Board of the
19 Illinois State Bank until his death in a car accident on
20 slippery roads November 24, 2003; and
 
21     WHEREAS, During his life in Lake in the Hills, he donated
22 50 acres of valuable land to the Village of Lake in the Hills,
23 School District 300, the Sanitary District, and McHenry County
24 Conservation District; he received the "Certificate of
25 Appreciation" in grateful acknowledgement of outstanding
26 service to the Lake in the Hills Jayceettes; and
 
27     WHEREAS, He served on the Lake in the Hills Economic
28 Development Commission and was a Charter Member of the
29 Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Rotary; he was named the Vern

1 Harnish "Business Person of the Year" in 1996; he received the
2 Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Chamber of Commerce award in 1997;
3 and
 
4     WHEREAS, Gordon and his wife, Joan, were honored for their
5 20 years of contributions to the "Food Basket Project" in 1998;
6 in 2001, Gordon Larsen was designated "Mr. Lake in the Hills"
7 by the business community; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 mourn the passing of Gordon Larsen, and we honor the memory of
11 an outstanding businessman and citizen who made tremendous
12 contributions to his country and his community; and be it
13 further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Gordon Larsen as an expression of
16 sincere respect for his memory.
