HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois wish to thank the organizers, volunteers, and participants who made the 2004 Centralia Relay for Life a success; and

WHEREAS, Relay for Life is an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society; and

WHEREAS, 39 teams participated in this year's Centralia Relay for Life and raised more than $86,000; the event has raised more than $843,000 for the American Cancer Society since its first run in 1996; 184 cancer survivors participated in the opening lap, which is traditionally known as the Survivors' Lap; the co-chairwomen of the event were Hilari Claytor and Christy Williams; and

WHEREAS, Participation in the Relay for Life helps to ensure that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the organizers, volunteers, and participants whose dedication and hard work made the 2004 Centralia Relay for Life such a successful event; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to 2004 Centralia Relay for Life co-chairwomen Hilari Claytor and Christy Williams as an expression of our sincere gratitude and respect.
