HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On April 30, 2004, the State Board of Education filed its Report on Waiver of School Code Mandates with the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Secretary of State of Illinois as required by Section 2-3.25g of the School Code; and

WHEREAS, Physical education is a critical need of children in this State, especially for reasons related to childhood obesity and diabetes; and

WHEREAS, The State finds physical education to be of so much value that the State has made physical education a core requirement for all public elementary and secondary school students, and this requirement should not be waived; and

WHEREAS, The current process required of the General Assembly to deny waivers of School Code mandates has made it difficult to amend the proposed denials from the originating chamber; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage the State to end its practice of allowing waivers of School Code mandates related to physical education.
