SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2605/2605-330   was 20 ILCS 2605/55a in part

    Amends the Department of State Police Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that, upon the request of the chief of a fire department or the board of trustees of a fire protection district (now, upon the request of the chief of a volunteer fire department), the Department shall conduct criminal background investigations of prospective firefighters and report to the requesting chief any record of convictions maintained in the Department's files about those persons.

1     AN ACT concerning public safety.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Department of State Police Law of the Civil
5 Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by changing Section
6 2605-330 as follows:
 
7     (20 ILCS 2605/2605-330)  (was 20 ILCS 2605/55a in part)
8     Sec. 2605-330. Firefighter background investigations. Upon
9 the request of the chief of a volunteer fire department or the
10 board of trustees of a fire protection district, the Department
11 shall conduct criminal background investigations of
12 prospective firefighters and report to the requesting chief any
13 record of convictions maintained in the Department's files
14 about those persons. The Department may charge a fee, based on
15 actual costs, for the dissemination of conviction information
16 under this Section. The Department may prescribe the form and
17 manner for requesting and furnishing conviction information
18 under this Section.
