SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

740 ILCS 45/6.2 new

Amends the Crime Victims Compensation Act. Provides that a victim of a crime of violence shall be treated equally with any other victim of a crime of violence. Provides that any compensation under the Act may not be reduced or denied to a victim because of his or her race, color, creed, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or opinion on the death penalty. Effective immediately.

AN ACT in relation to crime victims.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Crime Victims Compensation Act is amended by adding Section 6.2 as follows:

(740 ILCS 45/6.2 new)

Sec. 6.2. Crime victims; equal treatment. A victim of a crime of violence shall be treated equally with any other victim of a crime of violence. Any compensation under this Act may not be reduced or denied to a victim because of his or her race, color, creed, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or opinion on the death penalty.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
